About
Doulas/Traditional Birth Attendants
Childbirth doulas are trained professionals who provide physical, emotional, and informative guidance and support, as well as advocacy, for you and your partner throughout pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period.

Purpose
The word "doula" comes from ancient greek, meaning "a woman who serves".
A childbirth doula will:
-
stay by the birthing persons side throughout labor and birth

-
recognize birth as a key life experience

-
understand the hormones, physiology and emotions of birth

-
assist in preparing a birth plan

-
help you to create a desirable, relaxing birth environment

-
teach and employ stress relief techniques in order to reduce anxiety about birth and during birth, and the likeliness of medical interventions

-
advocate for you in supporting your right to make decisions for your own body and baby

-
be an emotional support to listen, reassure, encourage, and praise you through this immense experience

-
will significantly increase breastfeeding success by being present at the first feeding

Vision
I believe that your body is incredible, intelligent, and resilient. That together, we can work towards your empowerment and confidence for birth, and help you define and articulate your birth preferences.

You have a right to birth the way you want. It is your body, your child, your incredibly significant, life-changing moment.

With the right questions, education, and practice of relaxation techniques, you can take back your birth.

It does not have to be the fearful, ugly, urgent medical emergency that it is depicted as.

Rather, it is a beautiful, powerful, and emotional experience that all birthing people, their partners and families deserve to fully experience and celebrate!
What is NOT included in doula support?
Doulas do NOT provide any form of medical support.

We do not diagnose, give medical advise, do exams/monitoring, make decisions (medical or otherwise), pressure clients into our beliefs, or take over the role of the partner.
